Parents and Families

At SS John and Monica Catholic Primary School, we pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming and nurturing family atmosphere, which is at the heart of our school community. This is fostered by our experienced, caring and dedicated staff, who work together to ensure that every child feels valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

We recognise that parents and carers are the first and most important educators of their children. We are committed to developing strong, positive relationships with families, built on mutual respect, trust and open communication.

When we welcome a child into our school, we welcome the whole family.

We believe that a successful partnership between home and school is essential to children's happiness, wellbeing, personal development and academic success.

Communication and Parental Engagement

We actively encourage parents and carers to take an interest in their child's education and to play a full part in school life. We provide a range of opportunities throughout the academic year to strengthen our home–school partnership.

Parents' Consultation Evenings

We hold three formal opportunities for parental consultation throughout the academic year:

  • Autumn Term: An opportunity for parents to meet their child's new class teacher, discuss how their child has settled into the new academic year and identify any individual needs or priorities for learning.

  • Spring Term: An opportunity to review progress, celebrate achievements, discuss children's work and agree next steps in their learning.

  • Summer Term: Parents receive a written report detailing their child's attainment, progress and wider achievements. A further consultation opportunity is provided for parents who wish to discuss the report or their child's development in more detail.

We encourage children to take an active role in appropriate consultation meetings, helping them to reflect on their achievements, recognise their strengths and take increasing responsibility for their learning.

Open Communication

We operate an open and approachable communication policy and encourage parents to contact us whenever they have questions, concerns or information they wish to share.

Staff will endeavour to make themselves available for brief conversations, preferably at the end of the school day. Where a matter requires a more detailed discussion, parents are asked to arrange an appointment through the school office. This ensures that sufficient time and attention can be given to individual concerns.

Urgent matters, particularly those relating to safeguarding or a child's wellbeing, will always be prioritised.

Parent Workshops and School Events

Throughout the year, we organise a range of opportunities for parents and carers to engage with school life, including:

  • Curriculum information meetings and workshops to help parents support learning at home.

  • Open mornings and opportunities to celebrate children's learning and achievements.

  • Parent meetings and information sessions on important aspects of education and school life.

  • School celebrations, performances and special events that bring our community together.

Our Catholic Life and Mission

As a Catholic school, our faith is central to everything we do. We warmly welcome parents, carers and families to join us in celebrating and sharing our Catholic life.

  • School Mass: Families are invited to join our school community for Mass, which is celebrated fortnightly on Thursdays at 9.00 am, in accordance with the school calendar.

  • Liturgical Celebrations: Parents and carers are welcomed to special Masses, prayer services and other celebrations throughout the liturgical year.

  • School Productions and Celebrations: Families are invited to attend Christmas productions, performances and other events that celebrate the talents and achievements of our children.

These occasions provide valuable opportunities for us to come together as a community of faith, strengthening the relationships between home, school and parish.

Supporting Our School Community

We greatly value the generosity, enthusiasm and commitment of parents and carers who contribute to the wider life of our school.

Families are encouraged to support our Home–School Fundraising Committee, which plays an important role in organising events, strengthening our sense of community and raising valuable funds to enhance the opportunities and experiences available to our children.

Whether through attending events, volunteering, supporting fundraising initiatives or sharing their skills and expertise, every contribution is appreciated.
